Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall praised the winners of the 2017 NSW Tourism Awards during a gala ceremony held at the International Convention Centre Sydney last night.

Speaking at the Awards, Mr Marshall highlighted the importance of tourism and events to the State’s economy and congratulated the industry for its role in maintaining NSW’s position as the number-one State.

“The NSW visitor economy is the envy of every other State, with the greatest share of domestic and international visitors, visitor nights and expenditure, and an impressive calendar of major events across Sydney and rural and regional NSW, attracting millions of tourists all year round,” Mr Marshall said.

“The tourism industry contributes a phenomenal $33.2 billion per year in international and domestic visitor expenditure to the NSW economy and directly employs 164,000 people.

“At the heart of this success are the many hard-working individuals and businesses across NSW who work tirelessly to deliver world-class tourism experiences and I thank them for their commitment to excellence.”

Dean Gorddard, Executive Manager, Tourism at the NSW Business Chamber said, “Success in the Tourism Awards does not depend on whether an operator is big or small. It depends on their vision, achieving their business goals and, as a result, the excellent way their tourism product or service is delivered as an experience to the customer.”

Managed by the Tourism Industry Division of the NSW Business Chamber and supported by the NSW Government, the 2017 NSW Tourism Awards feature 27 categories, including major tourist attractions, festivals and events, cultural tourism, destination marketing and accommodation.

The NSW Tourism Awards winners will represent NSW as finalists at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards on Friday, 23 February 2018, in Perth.
