Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall said across the State for Facebook fans it was the white sands and blue waters of Cabarita Beach that earned the most likes and for Instagram followers, Lord Howe Island captured the most love with the top three photos on Visit NSW all showcasing the Island’s natural beauty.

“Over the past six months, the Sydney.com and Visitnsw.com websites received more than 9.8 million visits, which importantly generated more than 2.9 million sales leads to our NSW tourism industry,” Mr Marshall said.

“Sydney and Visit NSW social media platforms have a total community of more than 15 million fans and followers, more than any other Australian State Tourism Organisation and are a key channel for inspiring audiences across the country and around the world to visit our picture perfect State.

“We have the largest social media following of the Australian States and Destination NSW is the overall digital leader with record visits ranking the Sydney.com and Visitnsw.com websites collectively in the top 10 largest destination and accommodation websites in Australia in 2017.

“What’s great to see is that beyond the beauty of Sydney, travellers and proud locals also shared their captivating rural and regional NSW images showcasing the amazing diversity of the State and motivating travellers to venture beyond our renowned Harbour City and into what I believe are some of the most beautiful tourism destinations in the world.

“With the Summer holidays upon us, this is a fantastic time for locals and visitors to be tourism ambassadors for NSW and share more of their extraordinary snaps with this highly-engaged social media community to drive more visitors to Sydney and NSW.”
