Destination NSW CEO, Sandra Chipchase, today welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Transport, Gladys Berejiklian, on the creation of Transport Heritage NSW, which will realise the potential of rail heritage in NSW.

20 May 2013
“I’m delighted that Transport Heritage NSW will work with stakeholders to celebrate the history of rail transport in NSW and create opportunities for new visitor experiences,” Ms Chipchase said.

“By supporting our rail history, Transport Heritage NSW will assist tourism operators and volunteers across the state and contribute to the Visitor Economy.”

“Over a five year average, more than 101,000 domestic overnight visitors to NSW enjoyed tourist trains, per year.”

“Over the same period, more than 123,000 daytrip visitors, per year, explored tourist trains across NSW.”

“The development of plans to develop the best public benefit for our rail heritage at Eveleigh and for the Broadmeadow site in Newcastle by Transport Heritage NSW has the potential to create opportunities for rail enthusiasts, families and volunteers to explore NSW’s unique rail culture and history.”
