Inter Dominion Sydney races to success

NSW Minister for Tourism, Major Events and Racing, George Souris, has congratulated the winners and organisers of the 2013 TAB.COM.AU Inter Dominion, the first of three to be staged at Sydney's Tabcorp Park, Menangle.

“The thrilling victory of West Australian pacer Im Themightyquinn was a feat worthy of such a great event, with the winner coming from last to win its third Inter Dominion final in a row.  

“It was also one of the great training and driving feats in pacing, with Gary Hall Snr training the winner and his son, Gary Hall Jnr the driver.

“And congratulations must also go to Mr T McDonald, the owner and breeder of a pacer that has now won more than $4 million in prize money and has stamped itself a true champion, never having lost an Inter Dominion heat or final”.

The ten race TAB.COM.AU Inter Dominion grand final day featured seven Group One races including, the Form 700 Chariots of Fire and NSW Oaks, the Cordina Chicken Farms Ladyship Mile, the Camarda & Cantrill NSW Derby, the Bohemia FFA and the Chambers Challenge Trotting event, in addition to the TAB.COM.AU Inter Dominion Grand Final.

“The NSW Government is proud to support the TAB.COM.AU Inter Dominion, having secured the event in NSW for three consecutive seasons,” Mr Souris said.

“The partnership between the NSW Government, the NSW Harness Racing Club and Harness Racing NSW over this period marks a new era for the Inter Dominion series.

“The Inter Dominion is Australian harness racing’s pinnacle event and I am delighted the event has been a great success, with free to air broadcast coverage on Channel Nine generating significant national exposure of the event.”

The day featured an action-packed program of harness racing that showcased the world-class facilities at Tabcorp Park Menangle and demonstrated the appeal of the Inter Dominion to racing fans and those new to the sport.

“The NSW Harness Racing Club, with the assistance of Harness Racing NSW, is to be commended for developing Tabcorp Park Menangle into one of the best harness racing tracks in the world.

“Staging the Inter Dominion in Australia’s premier tourism and major events city is a coup for NSW and for our harness racing industry.

“The new format will help promote the harness racing industry to the next generation, with widespread local and international interest in this great sport.”
