New airport hotel a vote of confidence in Sydney

Minister for Tourism and Major Events, George Souris, has today turned the first sod on the construction site of a four star hotel being built outside the International Terminal of Sydney Airport.

“This $68 million development is a real vote of confidence in Sydney and the increased air traffic bringing tourists to our State.

“Sydney Airport passengers will benefit from greater choice and greater convenience with the hotel to be built at the airport’s revamped International Terminal by the Denwol Group and operated by Rydges Hotels,” Mr Souris told a gathering at the site.

“The new hotel will include 317 rooms, a bar, restaurant and gym and will meet demand from passengers for convenient and immediate access to the International Terminal at Sydney Airport”.

Mr Souris added that the new hotel would add to the new international precinct, unveiled earlier this year, which included new restaurants, bars and conference facilities.

“Sydney Airport plays a major role in promoting tourism not only to the Harbour City and the State, but also the rest of the country.

“It is vital that international travellers have a comfortable and friendly experience when arriving in Sydney“.

Last year, almost 12 million passengers flew to and from Sydney Airport’s International Terminal and that number is expected to increase over the next few years.

The new Rydges Hotel will be completed by early next year.
