Top-class surfing will return to the Tweed Coast, with the Telstra Stores Tweed Coast Pro coming back to Cabarita Beach in 2018.
25 September 2017Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall and Member for Tweed Geoff Provest joined local surfers today to launch next year’s NSW Pro Surf Series.
The Series, supported by the NSW Government, also stops at Maroubra Beach in Sydney, Boomerang Beach at the Great Lakes and Avoca Beach on the Central Coast.
Mr Marshall said the four events provided a significant boost for local hotels, restaurants and businesses.
“The 2017 NSW Pro Surf Series contributed over $1.1 million to the NSW visitor economy, attracting more than 800 overnight visitors to the four event locations and we expect next year’s event to be bigger and better than ever,” Mr Marshall said.
“I look forward to seeing Cabarita Beach packed with competitors and spectators next summer.”
Mr Provest said the Tweed Coast was the obvious choice to hold the event.
“The Tweed Coast is the perfect location to host the event – the region has a long association with surfing and is home to great surf breaks including Cabarita, Duranbah and Kingscliff,” Mr Provest said.
“This event is an official World Surf League Qualifying Series event and showcases our stunning coastline to surfers and fans from around the world.
“The Tweed Coast Pro has been a highlight of the summer for the past two years and we are looking forward to welcoming more than 200 surfers from around Australia and the world back to our beautiful region in 2018.”
The NSW Pro Surf Series will start at Maroubra Beach, running from 18-21 January, before the Telstra Stones Tweed Coast Pro, which will take place at Cabarita Beach from 31 January to 4 February. The Series then moves to Boomerang Beach from 7-11 February and Avoca Beach from 7-11 March.
