NSW strikes new deal with Singapore Airlines

Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have today announced an extension to the highly successful partnership between the NSW Government and SIA.

6 October 2018

Aimed at boosting tourism traffic to the State, the agreement was signed following a meeting between Mr Marshall and the Airline’s senior representatives in Singapore. The new two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) takes effect from 1 July, 2019.

“Visitors from Singapore are currently worth an impressive $245 million to our State’s economy and I am delighted we have renewed our agreement with Singapore’s national carrier to help grow this number even further,” Mr Marshall said.

“The new MoU will allow us to work with Singapore Airlines and travel trade partners to develop and promote itineraries that encourage visitors to spend time exploring both Sydney and regional NSW making this a great win for the State’s accommodation providers, restaurants and tourist attractions.

“The NSW Government recently announced the State’s new tourism targets including the first-ever regional target of $20 billion in visitor expenditure by 2025, and investments in aviation partnerships help us to contribute to that goal.

“Our State boasts Australia’s best line-up of events as well as so many outstanding regional destinations within easy reach of Sydney, which is why we are creating increased opportunities for visitors from Singapore to head beyond the city and into regional NSW to experience our award-winning food and wine, golf courses and unique natural experiences.

“It was a pleasure to meet with the Singapore Airlines’ representatives and secure an extension and expansion of this highly successful partnership, which will continue to boost the economy of Australia’s number one tourism and events State,” Mr Marshall said.

Singapore Airlines’ Senior Vice President Customer Experience, Yeoh Phee Teik, said the renewed partnership with the NSW Government reflected the Airline’s long-term commitment to grow the tourism market in Australia.

“For more than 50 years we have invested in, and grown our operations to, NSW and now operate five daily flights between Singapore and Sydney. Extending our partnership with the NSW Government will allow us to continue to promote the wonderful variety of experiences that NSW has to offer and highlight Singapore Airlines’ convenient connections to Sydney,” Mr Yeoh said.

Under the agreement, the two parties will develop and promote activities, including advertising, marketing campaigns and familiarisation programs, that encourage travellers to visit NSW through Singapore Airlines’ services to Sydney.
