An extra 9,000 public transport services will run during Vivid Sydney to cater for the huge number of visitors to the festival.
26 May 2017Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance said with so much to see and do, visitors should plan ahead to spend more than just one night at Vivid Sydney, and importantly, leave the car at home.
“Vivid Sydney’s footprint across the city continues to grow as do the number of attendees, so to meet the growing demand, an additional 9,000 public transport services will run during this year’s festival,” Mr Constance said.
“Around 5,400 extra bus services will run in addition to the regular timetabled services, moving an extra 350,000 passengers. There will also be almost 3,000 additional train services with the capacity to transport around 4.5 million people in and out of the city.
“We will also light up the iconic Central Station clock tower so visitors can enjoy the festival while commuting.
Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall said the festival continued to draw record numbers of visitors to the state each year and with that comes the need for more public transport services.
“Vivid Sydney is now Australia’s largest event that last year saw a record 2.31 million attendees to the festival. We’re expecting to draw even more visitors this year, so an extra 9,000 public transport services will be provided,” Mr Marshall said.
“We are incredibly proud of the success and achievements of this festival, which has cemented itself as an important asset for the NSW Government in driving visitor expenditure in the state’s economy.”
