The Harbour City has another top ranking on the list of top 10 Cities Overall in the prestigious World’s Best Awards survey.Minister for Tourism and Major Events, George Souris, has announced that Sydney has been voted the number one city in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific and is ranked number five on the list of Top 10 Cities Overall in Travel+Leisure 2012 World’s Best Awards readers’ survey. Last year, Sydney ranked number eight among cities worldwide in the survey.

“Sydney has now been selected by Travel+Leisure readers as the top Australasian city for 17 years,” Minister Souris said.

“Again this traveller survey demonstrates Sydney’s international reputation as one of the world’s premier destinations,” Mr Souris said.

“It is yet another tribute to our local tourism and events industries, which continue to develop new and exciting experiences to keep this city at the forefront with international visitors.

“This latest accolade will help reinforce Sydney’s reputation as a top international destination, especially for American travellers.”

The latest Travel+Leisure award comes in a long list of international honours Sydney has collected in the last 18 months, including number one city in the Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards, Lonely Planet’s World Best Summer City award and world’s best festival and major events city by the International Festival and Events Association.

Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer, Sandra Chipchase, said the latest award was another endorsement by travellers who had experienced first-hand all that Sydney has to offer.

“Travellers continue to love Sydney for its iconic attractions, the beauty of our natural environment, our unsurpassed lifestyle and outstanding calendar of major events.

“With Sydney’s buzzing night life, world-class events and attractions, fantastic food and entertainment scene, not to mention its rich arts and cultural scene, one can understand why it’s regularly voted by travellers as the best Australian city to visit,” Ms Chipchase said.
