Sydney scores exclusive deal with English Premier league giants Liverpool FC

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall and Liverpool FC Ambassador Ian Rush, today confirmed the NSW Government has secured Liverpool FC for an exclusive international football match against Sydney FC on Wednesday May 24.

“Sydney is the events capital of Australia and we are excited Liverpool FC has chosen to play here,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“Securing this match is another example of the NSW Government’s commitment to building a world-class calendar of events for our State.

Tourism and Major Events Minister Adam Marshall said “This match is expected to draw approximately 10,000 overnight visitors from across Australia and the world who will contribute over $6.5 million to the NSW economy.”

“I encourage football fans to book their trip to Sydney and while they’re here, stay on to enjoy everything our State has to offer - from the spectacle of Vivid Sydney, to the wide array of activities on offer in rural and regional NSW, ” he said.

Liverpool FC Ambassador, Ian Rush said: “We have so many incredible fans in Australia and there is always a brilliant atmosphere when we play over here.

“This is the first time the lads have played in Sydney and they’re really looking forward to a great match against one of Australia’s best A-league teams.”

Liverpool FC Manager Jürgen Klopp will bring a squad of best available First Team players to take on Sydney FC at ANZ Stadium on 24 May, 2017.

The event was secured by the NSW Government, through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, in partnership with VenuesLive, the operator of ANZ Stadium.

The Liverpool FC match caps off a bumper week of events in Sydney, including NRL Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs v Sydney Roosters match at ANZ Stadium on Sunday 21 May, NSW Waratahs v Melbourne Rebels Super Rugby match at Allianz Stadium on Sunday 21 May and the start of Vivid Sydney, the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas on Friday 26 May.

The upcoming Liverpool FC trip comes ahead of Arsenal FC and follows visits from Chelsea FC, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Italian giants Juventus.
