Minister’s Student Achiever Award in Tourism
Nature of Awards
Awards, including a cheque for each student, are to be made in respect of the 2019 academic year and awarded in 2020 for the promotion and encouragement of education in the field of tourism / hospitality.
The Student Achiever is one who has a record of sustained academic achievement and demonstrated the capabilities and personal qualities required to make a significant contribution to the tourism industry in New South Wales.
- Awards will be offered to one Student Achiever on completion of the first year (or equivalent*) of Certificate, Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Tourism / Hospitality.

Eligibility
Any student undertaking the programmes outlined above will automatically be eligible to be recommended by their institution for an award, on the basis of the selection criteria listed below.
Selection Criteria
- Students who are Australian citizens and reside in New South Wales.
- Students who have completed first year or equivalent (i.e. 2 years of part-time) of a tourism / hospitality course or one year of tourism / hospitality studies within a course offering tourism majors / strands.
- Students who have a record of sustained academic achievement and demonstrated the capabilities and personal qualities required to make a significant contribution to the tourism industry in New South Wales.
- Only one student per institution can be nominated, irrespective of the number of tourism programmes offered within the institution.
- Destination NSW reserves the right to disqualify nominations if they do not meet the full criteria.
- Award holders may be required to repay prize money if they fail to complete their programme.
- An award will not be presented if, in the opinion of the institution / selection panel, there is no student of sufficient merit.
- Travel to and from the awards ceremony will be at the student’s expense.
General Conditions
- Destination NSW reserves the right to disqualify nominations if they do not meet the full criteria. The decision will be final and no further correspondence will be entered into.
- Award holders may be required to repay part or all prize money if they fail to complete their programme.
- An award will not be presented if, in the opinion of the institution / selection panel, there is no student of sufficient merit.
- Travel to and from the awards ceremony (and any associated accommodation) will be at the student’s expense.
Presentation of Awards (Awards Ceremony)
The Minister for Tourism and Major Events will present the awards to successful students at NSW Parliament House. This is a tourism and hospitality event and may be attended by senior leaders of tourism and hospitality in New South Wales.
